Thinking about spirituality in this modern era causes us to reflect on the origin of spirituality. Our reflection naturally takes us back to a time of four great ancient masters. Krishna, Lao tzu, Buddha and Jesus. They are listed in this order according to age. The reason there isn't a fifth is because the first three all lived in the BC era. There is a debate whether Lao Tzu was a real person, or was the Tao Te Ching written anonymously and the name Lao Tzu created to keep the writer or writers anonymous. In these comparisons we're going to be writing as if Lao Tzu lived and wrote the Tao Te Ching and other scriptures we'll be using. The CE era began with Jesus. The reasom Muhammed and Islam won't be included in this comparison is because he just wasn't old enough. Muhammed lived in the 7th century and was also potentially influenced by one or more these masters.                      Living thousands of years from when these great masters lived we need to understand the limitations of their information being accurate. I wondered why historical records show Jesus being born in 4 BC. Here's the reason I found why BC is his birth year. In the year 525CE the Pope gave a monk named Dionysius Exiguus the job of restructuring the calendar centered around the birth of Jesus. Working with limited information the monk's calculation has been found to be 4-6 years years off noting that Jesus was born in 4BC.
